Art Education is one of the chief goals of Art in Bloom, and over the course of this year the not-for-profit organization has funded art products at North, South and Medford Opportunities High Schools.
At North Medford High three murals are just being finished up in three separate areas: science, culinary arts and fine arts. The final project will include 18 separate panels ranging from 8 ft. by 3 ft to a tiny 1 inch by 1 inch. In the science building, students are currently working on a mural that represents the solar system. For the culinary arts, students are painting food, food and more food images for the new culinary public restaurant on campus.
South Medford High School art students are creating three smudge pots this year. Close to 300 students also were able to attend a field trip themed as "Our Town: How can I use my creative mind to understand and improve my community?". As a result of what they learned students are creating a work of art that “draws attention to a local social issue” which will be displayed at the Art in Bloom festival and at the school’s Family Night.
Medford Opportunity High School (an At-Risk program) used their Art in Bloom funds to purchase much needed art supplies such as canvases, paint, brushes, oil pastels, frames, clay and two sets of digital pens with which the kids are producing some very interesting work. The art class has continued to grow in attendance and will now be held in two classrooms because of it’s popularity!
Many thanks to all who support Art in Bloom and Art Education in our local schools during these challenging economic times.
